The theme of the meeting, which was “Sustainable mountain development: Managing fragile ecosystems in the Andes”, focused on the potential for creating a corridor of protected areas across the Andes.
وكان موضوع الاجتماع " التنمية المستدامة للجبال: إدارة النظم اﻹيكولوجية الهشة في جبال الانديز " وتركز على إمكانيات إنشاء شريط من المناطق المحمية عبر جبال الانديز.

94. Chapter 13 of Agenda 21 (Managing fragile ecosystems: sustainable mountain development) is recognized, not only by Governments and inter-governmental organizations, but also by the international mountain NGO community, as the basic plan of action for the " mountain agenda " .
٩٤ - حظي الفصل ١٣ من جدول أعمال القرن ٢١ )إدارة النظم اﻷيكولوجية الهشة: التنمية المستدامة للجبال( بالاعتراف ليس من قبل الحكومات والمنظمات الحكومية الدولية فحسب، بوصفه خطة العمل اﻷساسية لبرنامج العمل للمناطق الجبلية، بل من قبل مجموعة المنظمات غير الحكومية الدولية المعنية بالجبال.

In accordance with the above-mentioned request, the Chairman of the Commission on Sustainable Development, which considers sustainable mountain development in the context of its periodic reviews of the implementation of chapter 13 (Managing fragile ecosystems: sustainable mountain development) of Agenda 21,1 sought the views of member States and observer States on this matter.
