75. To break this vicious cycle, measures must be put in place to protect children from recruitment and rerecruitment and provide them with viable alternatives.

It provides for the disarmament, rehabilitation and social reintegration of child soldiers, with international assistance to that end.

In particular, these include signing and ratifying the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict; enacting legislation that explicitly prohibits the recruitment of children into armed forces/groups and their use in hostilities; and exercising extraterritorial jurisdiction in order to strengthen the international protection of children against recruitment.

Burkina Faso appreciated the ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the enactment of a law criminalizing torture, the prosecution of perpetrators of human rights violations (notably gender-based violence against women), the reform of the penitentiary system, the establishment of juvenile courts and measures to protect children from being recruited.
80- وأشادت بوركينا فاسو بالتصديق على البروتوكول الاختياري الملحق باتفاقية مناهضة التعذيب وغيره من ضروب المعاملة أو العقوبة القاسية أو اللاإنسانية أو المهينة، وبسن قانون يجرم التعذيب، ومحاكمة مرتكبي انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان (لا سيما العنف بالنساء)، وإصلاح نظام السجون، وإنشاء محاكم للأحداث، واتخاذ تدابير لحماية الأطفال من التجنيد.
