Welcomes the intention of the Secretary-General to appoint a Special Representative to serve as the Head of the United Nations presence in the subregion relating to the peace process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to provide assistance in the Implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement, and invites him to do so as soon as possible;

Recalling its resolution 52/220 of 22 December 1997 as it relates to the maintenance and revitalization of the three United Nations regional centres for peace and disarmament, and welcomes the intention of the Secretary-General to appoint directors for the Centre for Africa and the Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean,

In his reply dated 7 December 2007 (S/2007/722), the President, inter alia, indicated that the members of the Security Council had taken note of the Secretary-General's intention to appoint a Special Adviser on Responsibility to Protect.
