Long-term sustainability of our regional fish resources is a crucial priority for the Pacific Islands Forum membership.

7. The Forum recognized that coordination mechanisms enabling the region to respond to specific types of security threats are already well developed in the region through the South Pacific Forum, other regional organizations, and sub-groupings, and that unnecessary duplication, overlap and waste should be avoided.
٧ - وسلم المنتدى بأن آليات التنسيق الذي تمكن المنطقة من الاستجابة ﻷنواع محددة من تهديدات اﻷمن قد تطورت بصورة جيدة في المنطقة من خلال منتدى المحيط الهادئ والمنظمات اﻹقليمية اﻷخرى والتجمعات دون اﻹقليمية وأنه ينبغي تجنب الازدواجية والتداخل والتبديد غير الضروري.

163. The South Pacific Forum at its meeting in September reiterated its expectation that shipments of plutonium and radioactive wastes should be carried out in a manner that addressed all possible contingencies and the concerns of relevant countries in the region.

For those reasons, members of the Pacific Islands Forum attach great importance to the annual resolutions that the Assembly considers on sustainable fisheries and the oceans and the law of the sea.

The Pacific Islands Forum members were also pleased to participate in the 2006 Review Conference and the 2010 resumed Review Conference.

Pacific Islands Forum countries are aware of the very considerable workload now faced by the Commission and are concerned at the implications for the timely consideration of submissions.

In light of the above efforts on integration of disaster risk reduction and climate change issues, there has been a progressive move towards holding the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction jointly with the Pacific Climate Change Round Table.
وفي ضوء ما ذُكر أعلاه من جهود مبذولة لإدماج قضايا الحد من أخطار الكوارث وتغير المناخ، حدث تقدم تدريجي صوب عقد منتدى المحيط الهادئ للحد من أخطار الكوارث بالاشتراك مع اجتماع المائدة المستديرة في منطقة المحيط الهادئ بشأن تغير المناخ.

The Pacific Platform for disaster risk management, held in New Caledonia from 17 to 21 September 2012, committed to developing an integrated regional strategy for disaster risk management and climate change, to commence in 2016.
والتزم منتدى المحيط الهادئ لإدارة مخاطر الكوارث، المعقود في كاليدونيا الجديدة في الفترة من 17 إلى 21 أيلول/سبتمبر 2012، بوضع استراتيجية إقليمية متكاملة لإدارة مخاطر الكوارث وتغير المناخ ابتداء من عام 2016.

I was not around for that, but it is said that Pacific Island Forum members were instrumental in paving the way for that critical moratorium, including through the 1989 Convention for the Prohibition of Fishing with Long Driftnets in the South Pacific.
ولم أكن حاضراً آنذاك، لكنّه قيل إنّ أعضاء منتدى المحيط الهادئ كانوا أساسيين في تمهيد الطريق لذلك الوقف الاختياري الحاسم، بما في ذلك من خلال الاتفاقية المتعلقة بحظر صيد الأسماك بالشباك العائمة الطويلة في جنوب المحيط الهادئ لعام 1989.

90. The United Nations accepted observer status at the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) in December 2006.

In support of human development initiatives in the Pacific Island countries, and in collaboration with the Pacific Forum secretariat and other United Nations agencies, UNDP sponsored the preparation of the Pacific Human Development Report 1994.
