This unique event gave the idea of an African nuclear-weapon-free zone fresh impetus and earlier this year a draft text for an African nuclear-weapon-free zone treaty was drawn up.

I have the honour to refer to General Assembly resolution 49/138 of 19 December 1994 on the establishment of an African nuclear-weapon-free zone.

In the case of the African continent, Togo would like to endorse the report of the Group of Experts to Draw Up a Draft Treaty on the Denuclearization of Africa.
