As the representative of France had pointed out, other matters of a legal nature were considered by the plenary Assembly; consideration of the item by the Sixth Committee was no longer appropriate, given that the Court was already established and functioning.

26. Bearing in mind that this question has been under intensive discussion in the Sixth Committee and that those discussions are to continue during the fifty-second session of the General Assembly, it is agreed that this aspect should be addressed in an appropriate manner by the Sixth Committee during that session.
٢٦ - وأخذا في الاعتبار أن هذه المسألة كانت قيد مناقشة مكثفة في اللجنة السادسة، وأن هذه المناقشات ستستمر أثناء دورة الجمعية العامة الثانية والخمسين، من المتفق عليه أن هذا الجانب ينبغي معالجته على النحو الملائم من جانب اللجنة السادسة في أثناء هذه الدورة.

In fulfilment of its function of rendering assistance to its member States and with a view to facilitating their active participation in the work of the General Assembly, AALCO continued to prepare on a regular basis notes and comments on selected items on the agenda of the General Assembly, more particularly items under consideration by the Sixth Committee.

His delegation had been struck by the encouraging narrowing of differences reflected in the conclusions of the Preparatory Committee. It strongly supported those conclusions as representing the most widely acceptable compromise and urged their acceptance by the Sixth Committee, which should also decide that the diplomatic conference should be convened, preferably in June 1998.
٨٠ - وقال إن وفده قد أعجب بما تنم عنه النتائج التي خلصت اليها اللجنة التحضيرية من تضييق مشجع لشقة الخلافات، كما يؤيد بقوة تلك النتائج باعتبارها تمثل حلا توفيقيا مقبولا على أوسع نطاق، ويحث على قبولها من جانب اللجنة السادسة التي ينبغي لها أن تقرر أيضا عقد المؤتمر الدبلوماسي، ويحبذ أن يكون ذلك في حزيران/يونيه ١٩٩٨.

∙ Take note of the report of the United Nations Secretariat to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on reservations to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women CEDAW/C/1997/4. and encourage similar studies by other treaty bodies, as well as by the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly, especially with respect to their effect on women’s and girls’ enjoyment of their human rights;
