During those consultation, the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs introduced the interim report of the Secretary-General on the situation in Burundi (S/2001/1076) containing, inter alia, a recommendation on strengthening the United Nations Office in Burundi. The Under-Secretary-General explained the reasons why the strengthening of the Office was requested.
