One speaker highlighted that the challenges posed by transnational organized crime should not be addressed from a security perspective alone and that relevant social and development aspects should also be recognized.
114- وشدّد أحد المتكلمين على أن التحديات الناشئة عن الجريمة المنظّمة العابرة للحدود الوطنية لا ينبغي الاقتصار على معالجتها من منظور أمني فحسب، بل ينبغي أيضا الاعتراف بما لها من جوانب اجتماعية وإنمائية.

Reference was made to the special high-level meeting on transnational organized crime held by the General Assembly on 17 and 21 June 2010, which provided significant political impetus to advancing the ratification and implementation of the Organized Crime Convention and the Protocols thereto.

At its twentieth session, in April 2011, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice of UNODC called for practical action against organized crime and adopted a resolution in which it urged Member States to strengthen international cooperation at all levels in combating transnational organized crime committed at sea.
