Its work is guided by an independent high-level Advisory Board, currently chaired by the former President of Botswana, Mr. Festus Mogae, with a number of other eminent and distinguished Africans as members.

At the 1st meeting, on 11 September, Ms Helen Plume (New Zealand) reported on the informal meetings relating to this issue which she had co-chaired with Mr. Festus Luboyera (South Africa) during the pre-sessional week, at the request of the chairmen of the subsidiary bodies.
