Member States recommended reviewing the existing mechanisms and exploring the possibility of creating a global forum to better coordinate activities of United Nations bodies and other international organizations in this field, to exchange experiences of geospatial information management and to help countries in need to build their capacities.

The discussions focused on the critical issues in geospatial information management and how they could help in addressing the global dimensions of today's emerging challenges, such as poverty, disaster management and climate change.

A background paper entitled " Future trends in geospatial information management: five- to ten-year vision " provides a detailed analysis of the main themes and trends identified by the working group. The seven broad themes are as follows:
ويرد في ورقة معلومات أساسية معنونة " الاتجاهات المستقبلية في إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية: رؤيا فترة السنوات الخمس إلى العشر المقبلة " تحليل مفصل للمواضيع الرئيسية والاتجاهات التي حددتها مجموعة العمل.

(b) Endorsed the first release of the report entitled " Future trends in geospatial information management: the 5- to 10-year vision " ,* and noted that the report is meant to be a " living document " that will be revised from time to time to reflect changes in technology and the environment;
(ب) أيدت العدد الأول من التقرير المعنون " الاتجاهات المستقبلية في إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية: تصوُّر لفترة خمس إلى عشر سنوات " *، وأشارت إلى أن الغرض من هذا التقرير هو أن يكون " وثيقة حية " يتم تنقيحها من وقت لآخر لتعكس التغيرات الحاصلة في مجالي التكنولوجيا والبيئة؛

(b) Requested the Secretariat to facilitate the mechanisms for the periodic update of the status of mapping in the world and to possibly integrate it with other knowledge-based surveys, in order to monitor the progress of Member States in geospatial information management.
(ب) طلبت إلى الأمانة العامة تسهيل آليات التحديث الدوري لحالة رسم الخرائط في العالم، وأن تدمجها، إذا أمكن، مع غيرها من المسوحات القائمة على المعارف، وذلك من أجل رصد التقدم الذي أحرزته الدول الأعضاء في إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية.

The need to act on the issue was substantiated by findings reflected in earlier documents, such as on the inventory of issues (E/C.20/2012/5), wherein the issue was identified as one of the three most important cross-cutting matters to be addressed, and on future trends in geospatial information management (E/C.20/2012/3).

In its reports on the inventory of issues (E/C.20/2012/5) and on future trends in geospatial information management (E/C.20/2012/3), the Secretariat specifically identified institutional arrangements and legal and policy frameworks as critical issues for the Committee of Experts to address in the coming years.

It had before it the report of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, prepared in collaboration with the working group on future trends in geospatial information management, entitled " Future trends in geospatial information management: the 5 to 10-year vision " .* The Director of the Statistics Division made introductory statements.
وكان معروضا عليها تقرير المملكة المتحدة لبريطانيا العظمى وأيرلندا الشمالية، الذي أعدَّ بالتعاون مع الفريق العامل المعني بالاتجاهات المستقبلية في مجال إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية، بعنوان " الاتجاهات المستقبلية في إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية: تصوُّر لفترة خمس إلى عشر سنوات``*. وأدلى مدير شعبة الإحصاءات ببيانات استهلالية.

At the meeting, there was a general consensus on the necessity to pursue the discussion of these important issues in a global forum in order to better coordinate the activities of United Nations bodies and other international organizations in this field, exchange practical experiences of geospatial information management among member countries and help countries in need to build their capacities.
وخلال الاجتماع، تحقق توافق في الآراء بخصوص ضرورة مواصلة بحث هذه القضايا المهمة في منتدى عالمي قصد تحسين عملية تنسيق أنشطة هيئات الأمم المتحدة ومنظمات دولية أخرى في هذا الميدان، وتبادل الخبرات العملية في إدارة المعلومات الجغرافية المكانية بين البلدان الأعضاء ومساعدة البلدان المحتاجة على بناء قدراتها.
