my delegation would also like to express its appreciation to Mr. Jean Ping, who laboured assiduously during his presidency of the fifty-ninth session, for his tireless efforts in guiding the preparatory work for the High-level Plenary Meeting.

my delegation also wishes to pay tribute to the initiatives of our Secretary-General, particularly those envisaged within the framework of the Millennium project designed to promote achievement of the goals contained in that historic document.

my delegation also wishes to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the United Nations agencies, funds and programmes that throughout these 10 years have carried out the African programmes.

my delegation also wishes to place on record our sincere appreciation to the delegation of Poland, representing the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties, for the cooperation extended to us in the consultation process.
