As a two-year temporary measure, the Committee also proposed to meet in parallel working groups for parts of its sessions in order to eliminate the backlog of reports awaiting consideration.

66. The Committee's use of the extended meeting time approved by the General Assembly in December 2005 has resulted in a significant reduction of the backlog of reports awaiting consideration and in a more timely consideration of reports.
66 - وأدى استخدام اللجنة لوقت الاجتماع الممدد الذي وافقت عليه الجمعية العامة في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2005 إلى خفض كبير في المتأخرات المتراكمة من التقارير التي لم يُنظر فيها بعد وإلى النظر في التقارير في الوقت المناسب.

2. While noting with appreciation that the increased workload of the Committee is, inter alia, a result of the improved rate of reporting by States parties, the Committee reiterates its concern at the persisting and growing backlog of reports awaiting consideration (approximately 45 reports).

4. Should the General Assembly adopt draft resolution A/C.3/66/L.29/Rev.1, the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities would meet in Geneva for one additional week in 2012 and 2013, respectively, in order to address the reports awaiting consideration.

While noting with appreciation that the high workload of the Committee was a result of the improved reporting rate for periodic reports submitted by States parties, as well as the high number (175) of States parties to the Convention, the Committee expressed concern at the persisting backlog of reports awaiting consideration.

Under the terms of operative paragraph 2 of draft resolution A/C.3/68/L.31/Rev.1, the General Assembly would authorize the addition of one week of meeting time for the Committee in 2014 as a temporary measure, including an adequate level of Secretariat resources, which would address the backlog of communications under the first Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights awaiting consideration.

The Committee had decided at its fifty-second session that it would not hold a day of general discussion in 2010 due to the increasing backlog of reports pending consideration.
وكانت اللجنة قد قررت في دورتها الثانية والخمسين أنها لن تعقد يوم مناقشة عامة في عام 2010 نظراً لتزايد تراكم التقارير التي لم يُنظر فيها بعد.
