Statement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and dialogue with members of the Commit-tee

The representative of the Secretariat indicated that the Division for the Advancement of Women participated, at the invitation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, when relevant, in fact-finding missions led by the High Commissioner, in order to provide its expertise on gender and women’s issues.
وأشار ممثل اﻷمانة العامة إلى أن شعبة النهوض بالمرأة قد شاركت، بدعوة من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان في بعثات تقصي الحقائق التي يضطلع بها المفوض السامي عندما يكون للشعبة علاقة بالموضوع من أجل تقديم خبرة تقنية بشأن مسائل نوع الجنس وقضايا المرأة.

" The Security Council supports the reinforcement of the action decided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and welcomes the dispatching of experts.
" ويساند مجلس اﻷمن مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان فيما قرره من تعزيز العمل، ويرحب بإيفاد الخبراء.

It further stressed the importance given to cooperation between relevant United Nations bodies with a view to better mobilizing existing capacities for human rights education, under the coordination of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
وأكدت أيضا أهمية التعاون بين هيئات اﻷمم المتحدة ذات الصلة بغية تحسين تعبئة القدرات الحالية للتثقيف في مجال حقوق اﻹنسان، بتنسيق من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان.

15. Both the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, José Ayala-Lasso, and the President of the World Bank, James D. Wolfensohn, underscored the need for close cooperation and declared their determination to create conditions to that end.
١٥ - وأبرز كل من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي خوسيه أيالا - لاسو ورئيس البنك جيمس د. ولفنسون الحاجة إلى التعاون الوثيق بين المؤسستين، وأعلنا عن عزمهما على توفير الظروف المواتية لبلوغ تلك الغاية.

The United States therefore asked the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to continue to provide strong support for the human rights machinery and to support the human rights treaty bodies.
ولذلك فإن الولايات المتحدة تطلب من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان أن يواصل تقديم دعم هام ﻵليات حقوق اﻹنسان وأن يساند الهيئات التعاهدية المتعلقة بها.

(ii) To request the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to facilitate the activities of the joint mission, in particular with respect to its funding, in order to accelerate its work, and to provide appropriate technical expertise to enable the mission to fulfil its mandate;
' ٢ ' أن تطلب من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان تسهيل أنشطة البعثة المشتركة، ولا سيما فيما يتصل بتمويلها، قصد تعجيل عملها وتوفير الخبرة التقنية الملائمة لتمكين البعثة من الاضطلاع بولايتها؛

I have the honour to transmit to you the financial statements of the voluntary funds administered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for the financial period ended 31 December 1993, which were submitted by the High Commissioner.
يشرفني أن أحيل إليكم البيانات المالية المقدمة من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لشؤون اللاجئين لصناديق التبرعات التي يديرها الفوض السامي عن الفترة المالية المنتهية في ٣١ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٣.

(iv) Press releases and media briefings of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights on the activities of working groups, special rapporteurs and representatives, independent experts and human rights field presences;
' ٤` نشرات إعلامية وتقارير إحاطة إعلامية مقدمة من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان عن أنشطة اﻷفرقة العاملة والمقررين الخاصين والممثلين الخاصين والخبراء المستقلين والعناصر الموجودة في الميدان والعاملة في مجال حقوق اﻹنسان؛

The Committee further suggests that the State party consider seeking technical assistance for this purpose from the United Nations High Commissioner/Centre for Human Rights and the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Division of the United Nations Secretariat.
وتقترح اللجنة أيضا أن تنظر الدولة الطرف في التماس المساعدة التقنية لهذا الغرض من مفوض اﻷمم المتحدة السامي/ مركز حقوق اﻹنسان وشعبة منع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية باﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم المتحدة.

(b) Also approved the Commission's request to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights:

(ii) To the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to take duly into account, within the framework of the restructuring of the Centre for Human Rights, the repeated appeals of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council for the establishment of a mechanism within the Centre for Human Rights as a focal point for coordinating all the activities of the Third Decade before they are carried out by the United Nations;

The International Vice-General Secretary met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights to discuss more effective non-governmental organization participation in the arena of human rights.
