Pakistan has proposed the holding of a conference on nuclear non-proliferation in South Asia under the auspices of the United Nations, with the participation of regional and other interested States. 11/ India, one of the major States in the region, has, however, taken the position that without a proper definition of the geographic extent, security needs and concerns of a region, endorsement of the concept would be inappropriate.
