36. The Government of the Maldives notified the designation of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives as the national preventive mechanism (NPM) in a statement issued on Human Rights Day on 10 December 2007, by the President of the Republic of Maldives.

II. DEVELOPMENT OF THE national preventive mechanism
ثانياً - تطوير آلية الوقاية الوطنية

65. As already noted, the Maldivian authorities had notified the designation of the National Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) as the national preventive mechanism (NPM) on 10 December 2007.
65- أبلغت السلطات في ملديف، كما سبقت ملاحظته، بأنها عينت لجنة حقوق الإنسان الوطنية بوصفها آلية الوقاية الوطنية وذلك في 10كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2007.

68. During this exchange of ideas the main challenges for this new national preventive mechanism in its daily work within the country and its relationship with the SPT were discussed and analysed.

31. The Ombudsmen also raised concerns about the lack of additional resources allocated to undertake the NPM functions and highlighted their limited number of staff.

(a) The mandate and powers of the NPM should be clearly and specifically established in national legislation as a constitutional or legislative text.
