In a letter dated 13 December 2009, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh requested the President of the Tribunal to appoint three arbitrators in the arbitral proceedings instituted under annex VII to the Convention for the settlement of the dispute concerning the delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and India in the Bay of Bengal.

29. Turning now to the Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal (Bangladesh/Myanmar), let me say that it is the first maritime delimitation case to have come before the Tribunal.

13. On the basis of the schedule of proceedings agreed to by the parties, and in order to avoid unnecessary delay in the conduct of the case, 8 September 2011 has been fixed as the opening date of oral proceedings in Case No. 16 (Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal).
13 - على أساس الجدول الزمني للإجراءات التي وافقت عليها الأطراف، وبغية تجنب أي تأخير لا داعي له في سير القضية، حُدد تاريخ 8 أيلول/سبتمبر 2011 موعداً لبدء المرافعات الشفوية في القضية رقم 16 (النـزاع المتعلق بترسيم الحدود البحرية بين بنغلاديش وميانمار في خليج البنغال).

18. The President reported on the latest developments in the two cases that had been brought before the Tribunal, namely Case No. 16 (Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal) and Case No. 17 (Responsibilities and obligations of States sponsoring persons and entities with respect to activities in the Area (request for advisory opinion submitted to the Seabed Disputes Chamber)).

On 14 March 2012, in case No. 16, " Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal (Bangladesh/Myanmar) " , the Tribunal delivered its judgment in its first maritime delimitation case determining a single maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal with respect to the territorial sea, the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf.
152 - في 14 آذار/مارس 2012، أصدرت المحكمة حكمها في القضية رقم 16، " النزاع المتعلق بترسيم الحدود البحرية بين بنغلاديش وميانمار في خليج البنغال (بنغلاديش/ميانمار) " ، وهي أول قضية لها لترسيم الحدود البحرية، وعنيت بحكمها حدا بحريا وحيدا بين بنغلاديش وميانمار في خليج البنغال، فيما يتعلق بالبحر الإقليمي والمنطقة الاقتصادية الخالصة والجرف القاري.

34. The Tribunal met on 14, 23 and 24 March, from 5 September to 24 September and from 10 October to 4 November 2011 to deal with case No. 16 on the list of cases of the Tribunal (Dispute concerning delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal (People's Republic of Bangladesh/ Union of Myanmar)).
