Article 1 of the Charter of the United Nations states that one of the purposes of the United Nations is to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.
لقد نصت المادة اﻷولى من ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة على أن مقاصد اﻷمم المتحدة إنماء العلاقات الودية بين اﻷمم على أساس احترام مبدأ مساواة الشعوب في الحقوق وحقها في تقرير المصير.

١٦ - ولقد عقد مؤسسو اﻷمم المتحدة، في الفصل اﻷول من الميثاق عزمهم على " إنماء العلاقات الودية بين اﻷمم على أساس احترام المبدأ الذي يقضي بالمساواة في الحقوق بين الشعوب " .

We also maintain the view that the embargo is a violation of the provisions of Article 1 of the Charter of the United Nations — in particular, the provisions of paragraph 2, which stipulates that the fundamental purpose of the United Nations is the development of friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principles of equal rights and the self-determination of peoples.

7. There is no doubt that the instrument which has universal scope in this area is the Charter of the United Nations, Articles 1, 2 and 55 of which establish the need “to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples”.
٧- ومما لا شك فيه، أن الصك اﻷشمل هو ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة الذي ينص في المواد ١ و٢ و٥٥، على ضرورة " توطيد أواصر الصداقة بين اﻷمم على أساس احترام مبدأ المساواة في الحقوق وحرية الشعوب في تقرير مصيرها " .

Increasing the number of States that accept the Court's jurisdiction will enable the Court to better reach its full potential in contributing to the peaceful settlement of disputes and to the maintenance of international peace and security, as well as to the development of friendly relations among nations on the basis of the rule of law.
وزيادة عدد الدول التي تقبل ولاية المحكمة ستمكّن المحكمة من تحقيق كامل إمكاناتها بشكل أفضل للإسهام في تسوية المنازعات بالوسائل السلمية وفي صون السلام والأمن الدوليين، وكذلك في تنمية العلاقات الودية بين الأمم على أساس مبدأ سيادة القانون.
