the Cartographic Section of the Department of Field Support provides support to various special projects of the United Nations, such as assistance and advice on the delimitation of international boundaries (through the intensive use of satellite imagery as well), and project management for GIS units of peacekeeping missions and the GIS centre in Brindisi, Italy, which prepares topographic base mapping.
