The growth of the Internet and other digital technologies has expanded the opportunities provided by distance learning in terms of access, quality and support and offers new avenues for the capacity development activities of UNCTAD.

The report emphasizes, among other things, the importance of constant dialogue between LDCs and their development partners to seek ways and means of enhancing the substantive impact of analytical and operational activities of UNCTAD on the trade and development prospects of these countries.

The European Union further stressed the importance of equitable geographical distribution of UNCTAD activities in order to optimize its resource use.

If the secretariat had difficulty in that connection, it should turn to member States for instructions. In that connection, it would be important to ensure sustainable funding for UNCTAD activities as a whole.
وإذا وجدت الأمانة صعوبة في هذا الصدد فإن عليها أن تتجه إلى الدول الأعضاء طلباً للتعليمات، ومن المهم في هذا الشأن ضمان التمويل المستدام لأنشطة الأونكتاد في مجموعها.

5. The representative of the United Kingdom, speaking on behalf of the European Union and the acceding countries, Bulgaria and Romania, emphasized that UNCTAD activities on LDCs and Africa must be focused and prioritized, and be allocated the necessary resources from within the secretariat.
5- وأكد ممثل المملكة المتحدة، متحدثاً باسم الاتحاد الأوروبي والبلدين المنضمين بلغاريا ورومانيا، أنه يجب أن تكون لأنشطة الأونكتاد المتعلقة بأقل البلدان نمواً وأفريقيا أهداف وأولويات محددة، ويجب تزويدها بالموارد الضرورية من الأمانة.
